VRE

Virtual Research Environments (VREs) are software systems which can help researchers to carry out collaborative work. The aim of a VRE is to provide an integrated environment that supports the work of a community of collaborating researchers. It brings together previously separate tools needed for conducting the research and for collaboration. Next to the term ‘Virtual Research Environment’, a number of other terms are currently in use for roughly the same concept: Collaboratories, Virtual Knowledge Centers, Scholarly Workbenches.
